What People Are Saying
About Us
Dogs truly are Man’s Best friend and they are a part of our family. The issue that comes into play is that dogs are not humans, they are dogs. Dogs like structure and a sense of purpose. They look for a calm and secure pack leader and that is where you come in as a dog owner. Our dogs require more than food, water, and shelter to keep balance in the home. Our dogs feel our energy and feed off our excitement along with all other emotions. As pet owners, we need to channel this energy and allow our pets to enjoy a balanced lifestyle which consists of obedience, play, and love, in that order. If you can’t always get up every moment throughout the day to let your dog out, consider adding a dog door to your home and supplying them with many dog toys. German Shepherds may be large dogs with a lot of energy, but if they undergo the right puppy training with a certified dog whisperer, they will learn how to channel their energy every day. As I have learned through many years of training dogs, the rewards of having a well-balanced dog and home are endless.
Service Dogs
Brett Suttle was born in Pennsylvania and raised Ohio, where he currently resides. Post high school, Brett served in the United States Navy, then worked his way through college, earning his Bachelors of Science in business. In 1998, while working as a rescue diver, Brett became so fascinated with search dogs that he joined the Ohio K9 Search Team where he served in several officer positions and as a certified dog handler until 2005. During this time, Brett and his K9s became certified in many search disciplines, including cadaver, water, building search, and human remains, along with live land searches. Brett supported multiple state and federal agencies in the search for lost or missing persons in and around the nation.
Over the years, Brett has continually expanded his canine knowledge and education to include service dog training and ultimately his Master Dog Trainer’s certification. His love and dedication to these animals have culminated in Brett founding The Rude Dog K9 Training Company.
The Rude Dog K9 Training Company was designed as a one-stop shop for both you and your puppy.
He offers a wide range of dog training services, including puppy training, basic obedience, advanced and off-leash obedience, scent theory and service training. Brett is a member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP) and a certified evaluator for the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Award program.
From his love of canines came a need for healthy food alternatives and as a result, in 2008, Brett created his own line of dog food named after his black Labrador and longtime search partner, Louie. Louie’s Bark’n Grill was established to supply dog owners with healthier options to feed their 4-legged friends.

Best Barkin' Raw Dog Food
The BARF Diet
Biologically Appropriate Raw Food
As I stated earlier, I’ve been feeding raw for many years—even before the invention of the Internet, which meant that I had to actually go to the library to learn about it (try finding a book on that subject!). Well, I did, and with the help of a few of my dog training friends, I began my quest to find a better, more natural alternative to feeding my dogs.
I figured since I was already spending so many hours training my dogs, why not spend a few extra minutes preparing them a healthier diet?
For those who just want to take the easy way out, the dog food industry thanks you a billion times over.
Dry foods are prepared by a process called extrusion. This process uses high temperature and pressure to convert the original ingredients into a crunchy kibble.
Although you may start with the best steak, fish, and vegetables available, you’ll end up with a food of little nutritional value after cooking them under these conditions. This could be why your dog continues to eat your leather shoes—they taste better!
This process also limits the type of ingredients that can be put in the food … carbohydrates turn crunchy while the high protein foods turn to dust. Thus, the amount of quality protein in these foods is limited by the process used to generate the kibble.
Long-term use of kibble will inevitably lead to health problems in your dog. Common clinical conditions seen at veterinary clinics are related to the ingestion of kibble and no fresh, whole foods. Chances are, if your senior dog has allergies, it’s more than likely due to the food you’ve been feeding him. Skin problems, ear and digestive issues, obesity and even emaciation are oftentimes due to feeding poor quality kibble.
Why do you think your vet prescribes boiled chicken, rice and other raw vegetables when your dog isn’t feeling well? Answer: it’s easier on their system. Why just not feed them what always makes them feel better?
Why a BARF Diet?
I know we’re not supposed to have “favorites” when it comes to our pets, but sometimes we are blessed with a particularly special one that steals our hearts. I owned and trained two Yellow Labs, Buster and Bailey, before Louie came along. I loved them all, but Louie was an incredible dog. Maybe he was from a better breed of Labs, or maybe I had become a better dog handler, but in any case, he performed at such a high level that it was hard for me to keep up with him.
I had already introduced my other dogs to raw meats and was starting to see the benefits. I made the decision that Louie would be fed raw right from the start.
The first couple of weeks Louie was on raw, he developed hot spots. I had never encountered this before. In talking with my vet and other friends who were feeding raw, I discovered that this was how a dog’s body naturally reacts to an ailment. Louie’s own system was pushing the toxins out to the surface. Within just a few weeks, the hot spots were gone and in the 15 years Louie was with me, he never again returned to the vet due to an ailment. His teeth never needed cleaning, his breath was good, his coat was shiny, his eyes were clear and his heart was strong!
As Louie got older, I continued to get compliments that he did not look his age. No gray hair and he never slowed down. Louie was a working dog and I was being told by other dog handlers that I needed to retire him at the age of nine. However, he was still working just as well as or better than most dogs half his age in his field. I finally retired him at the age of 12 and I lost him a few years later as he quietly laid down under a shade tree—the same place I always took him as a puppy.
In 2008, Louie’s Bark’n Grill made its debut while Louie was in the prime of his life and living large. I had no doubt that even though we exercised daily, it was his diet that largely contributed to his success and a happy and healthy life. After watching Louie and my other dogs thrive on this Biologically Appropriate Raw Food (BARF), I felt compelled to share my incredible results—and food—with other dog owners looking for a natural dog food alternative.
Moisture is an important ingredient in the digestive system of your dog’s body. Moisture is practically nonexistent in kibble dog foods. Most likely once your dog eats his kibble he will then drink an overabundance of water to quench his thirst. Once that water mixes with the dry kibble in his stomach, all kinds of processes happen. The food expands and can cause gas, an upset stomach which can lead to vomiting and even bloating which can kill your pet. All of my meals contain over 60 percent moisture which will naturally help your dog’s digest system work properly.
Smaller, firmer stools, healthier skin and coat, reduced allergy symptoms and better weight management are all benefits your dog will be able to take advantage of. One of the first things you will notice about your dog on a raw diet is less waste! Often owners notice this during the second week of feeding the raw diet. With my food, you will see a large reduction in the amount of waste from your dog because your dog’s body will naturally absorb the nutrients and process the foods better leaving less to discard. With my meals and your dog absorbing all the food, you will also need to feed less. For a large breed dog, only 8 ounces per meal may be all you need. This, of course, will vary according to the lifestyle of the dog.
Cleaner teeth will also be a result of feeding raw. The dog food industry uses chemicals to get the dog food to stick into shapes and sizes they want. This allows the food to also stick to your dog’s teeth – which then leads to bad breath and the build-up of plaque and tartar.

Here at Louie’s Bark’n Grill we also have a large variety of supplements to help tailor to your dog’s health needs. If your dog is a working dog or just family pet chances are it will need some extra supplements to continue their healthy lifestyle. Using Dog foods with these “added” vitamins don’t allow you to make sure your dog is getting the correct dose. Adding supplements to your dog’s meal will again allow you to tailor to your dog’s needs and or lifestyle and promote a longer lasting lifestyle. Why not just add these vitamins to my dog food? Again, it gives each owner the ability the only give their dog what it needs and not to overpay for what they don’t need.
